Does a jobsite need a hand washing station?

Yes, OSHA requires washing facilities on construction sites under 29 CFR 1926.51(f). The rule says washing facilities must be kept in sanitary condition, with water, soap and towels, and placed close to the work. Crews that handle paint, concrete, lead or food need them most.

Read the rule at OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51. Our rule of thumb: one station for every two toilets on a busy jobsite, set right outside the units.

Where should a hand washing station go?

A hand washing station should sit right outside the porta potties, or between two units, on level ground. Put a second station near food at events. Keep it out of the sun in summer, because the water heats up and the soap gets runny.

  • Level ground keeps the gray water tank from leaking at the drain plug.
  • Do not move a full station. It weighs about 254 pounds.
  • At events with kids, set the station where parents can see it from the tables.

Hand washing station questions

Here are straight answers to the {'hand washing station'} questions people ask before they book. Every answer starts with the short version, then the conditions that change it. If your site, dates or head count differ, call (803) 343-9386 and Jesse's team will tell you what works for your job.

How much does a hand washing station cost?

A hand washing station starts at $105 per event, or $95 per 28 days on a jobsite with weekly refills. It rides on the same truck as your toilets, so there is no second delivery fee.

Is the hand washing water drinkable?

No. The water is clean tap water, but the tank is not certified for drinking. Bring bottled water or a cooler for drinking.

Does the station have hot water?

Our standard stations use room-temperature water. Ask about heated stations for winter events, which need a power outlet.

How many hand washing stations do I need for a 100-person cookout?

Two stations for 100 guests at a cookout: one by the toilets and one near the food. That follows our 1-station-per-3-toilets method plus a food-line station.

Can I add a sink to my existing porta potty rental?

Yes. Call or text the address on your rental. We bring the station on the next route to your area, often the same day.

Can I wash dishes in the station?

No. The station is for hands only. Food grease clogs the gray tank and the pumps.
