How many porta potties does a construction site need?
A construction site needs 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers under OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(c). From 21 to 199 workers, OSHA requires 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. At 200 or more, the ratio becomes 1 seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers. Our standard units include both.
| Number of workers | Minimum facilities (OSHA Table D-1) | Standard units we send |
|---|---|---|
| 20 or fewer | 1 toilet | 1 unit |
| 21 to 199 | 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers | 1 unit per 40 workers (each has a seat and urinal), e.g. 60 workers = 2 |
| 200 or more | 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers | 1 unit per 50 workers, e.g. 250 workers = 5 |
Read the full rule at OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51. South Carolina runs its own OSHA plan through SC OSHA (SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation), which follows the federal construction standard. Confirm site rules with your safety officer.
Worked example: a 45-person framing crew
Forty-five workers is more than 40, so OSHA needs 2 seats and 2 urinals. Two standard units cover that. Add 1 hand washing station for the 2 units. Book weekly service, and add a second weekly visit in July and August.

Does a jobsite need hand washing stations?
Yes. OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(f) requires washing facilities on construction sites, kept sanitary and stocked with water, soap and towels. Crews working with paint, concrete, lead or other contaminants need them most. We recommend one hand washing station for every two jobsite toilets.
See our hand washing station specs. Stations ride on the same truck as the toilets, so they add no second delivery fee.
How does jobsite servicing work?
Jobsite servicing happens once a week on a set day. The driver pumps the waste tank, scrubs the seat, urinal and walls, adds deodorizer and restocks toilet paper. You do not need to be there. Extra visits can be added any day for inspections, hot weeks or large crews.
- Service day: we pick a weekday and stick to it, so your super knows when to expect us.
- Access: keep a 10-foot lane open to the units. Blocked units are skipped and cost a return trip.
- Placement: set units on firm ground near the street, not behind the foundation where the truck cannot reach.
- Moves: we move units as the job changes. Do not drag them with equipment.
- Locks: add a hasp for your padlock on sites that close at night.
Can I rent a jobsite toilet for just a few days?
Yes. A roofing, demo or concrete job that lasts a few days can use our 7-day jobsite rental. The 7-day rental includes delivery, pickup and one service visit. Jobs longer than a week move to 28-day billing with weekly service. You never pay 28 days for a 3-day roof.
